Today, a year ago I found R2D2 dead at the bottom of the cage. He was different than any keet I had ever had. He was spunky and friendly. He loved to kiss and make kissy sounds. R2D2 loved the mirror and protected his reflection from any hands. Whenever I would come home he would jump to the front of the cage and greet me. He was the one that made me apreciate my keets more. I will always love him and will never forget that ray of sunshine that I had for a few months.

I have lost countless pets, friends, family, even my wife. It is a painful experience that seems to take forever to fade. When the initial pain of the act is gone, you unfortunately have to bear the memories as well. I have a great deal of trouble with the latter. In spite of it all I have realized that, although difficult to bear, I was better off for the experience than not. So I have tried to train myself to making the fondness foremost and suppressing the grief. Some things in life just aren't easy and I hope that the passing of time will allow you to heal and grow with little or no scars.

Well said Barak smile
Being the "anniversary" I'm sure the pain comes flooding back full force. Hold on to the good times and all the joy R2D2 brought to your life. I think for most of us, as time goes by the terrible pain of losing them does lessen, but we NEVER forget them. Each and every one is special in their own way and leaves a stamp on our hearts.

I wholeheartedly agree with the picture above - until one has loved an animal, part of their soul remains unawakened.
I am unbearable when I lose a pet. Whenever I come across an animal that is injured, I will take it home and try to care for it the best I can. Sometimes, they don't pull through and it is so, so sad.
But the one thing that makes me feel better is the knowledge that they have been given food, water and warmth, even if it's just for a few days.
We are unlucky enough to outlive our pets and have to deal with the loss, but that is why we are their guardians.
