can some keets need more sleep than others? nik nak seems to sleep more than the others. she is fine every other way. she just seems to like to sleep alot lately. she sleeps with her head tucked back and on 1 foot and seems to nap mor than the others. i think she is starting a major molt, could that make her more tired? any ideas?

No molting does not affect the birds that much so it is probabley not that. I would highley suggest taking her to the vet there could be a more serious problem, when keets are sick they try to hide there symptoms as muck as possible so being tired may not be the only problem. Parakeets are highley active birds and are playing with there toys and goofing around even if no one is there. I hope my advice helped!

I am not sure, BB..

If you see the problem still persisting, take her into a vet immediately.
I'm pretty sure you know this, but, if a keet is not highly active or not as active as normal--- take her into a vet.

Could be a problem.

Goo Luck!

BB I have heard others saying that their bird does sleep more before a major molt. Maybe not every bird and maybe not every mot but you are certainly not the first I have heard make that observation. How is she doing now?

i think she is just plain lazy to tell the truth! there is nothing else wrong with her except she has more "bird naps" than the others!

LOL Yeah, if she were sick, surely by now you would know it? Our budgies are just like people. There are "averages" for everything, how much they eat, sleep etc. but that doesn't mean there aren't some who lean to one extreme or the other.

When Sherby molts he is usually not as active and he sleeps more. He also sulks. A sulking keet is a depressing thing to see. He always comes out of it in a few days though.

no, she naps on a perch on 1 foot, she settles for the night on her swing. she is eating, drinking, playing, poops normal color, normal amount, bright eyes, no sneezing, panting, fluffing (unless she is having a snooze, she puffs a bit then, but only like a comfy, sleepy bird), beak tucked back, plumage clean, shiny and smooth... anything else to describe normal? hahaha LOL! it did not suddenly start, she has always been that way, i had just been wondering if anyone else has a dozy keet too. smile
