Hello, Good Day and Good Evening,

I found this site while researching some symptoms that my Keet was presenting and I decided to join the forum as it specialises in Parakeets rather than being for Birds in general. My history with Parakeets is thus:

Several years ago I (after much pleading) got a Keet for Christmas. I got to go pick one out and I found a beautiful Blue-Green female whom I named ChiChi. We took her to the vet (who is an avian specialist and friend of ours) and they cleared her health-wise (though, they could not draw blood for she was too small). Within a week or so of bringing her home, she began presenting symptoms regarding her droppings and vent. Worried, we took her to the vet again and they kept her for several days. When we got her back, they gave us medicine that we were to give her twice a day for a month. Administering the medicine involved grabbing her and force-feeding it to her.

Despite her squawking and biting, I gave her the medication everyday and she got better, though being grabbed twice a day for so long made her terrified of humans. After we had her a few years, We got her a little white male named Rocky (named after a Roc). My hopes were that I could finally train ChiChi if she saw me training Rocky, but he took to her too much and I never made much progress with him. A few months ago, ChiChi died and Rocky became a single bird for the first time in his life.

Despite this, he seems to be doing well. My mom keeps urging me to get him another friend, but I am hesitant to do so.

As for me personally, I am a teenager and I enjoy reading, writing and drawing.

This would be an excellent time to work on taiming Rocky. Since he will be missing ChiChi he would welcome additional attention from you.

Sorry to hear about ChiChi. Even tho she was scared of people, I'm sure you loved her all the same and I know how much it hurts to lose a pet. I have 1 who is still scared of people too, but I love him to pieces and it would kill me if anything ever happened to him. He is who he is, and I'm sure that's how you felt about ChiChi too.
Like BLR said, this is probably a good time to work with Rocky and spend as much time as you can with him. Be consistent and patient with his training and maybe you can finally form a bond with him. Maybe some day down the road once you have bonded, it would be a good idea to get him a friend. But for now, take your time and be his best friend.

Welcome to our little "family"! Rocky sounds great. Sorry to hear of your recent loss though. I agree with what others have said in that this is a good time to spend extra time working on forming a bond with Rocky. He will need you much more now that he is single.
