My Keet, Rocky has been sleeping during the day. A bit more than a week ago I noticed him squinting a lot and I thought his eyes might be bothering him but over time I realised that He's actually just very sleepy. He has absolutely no other symptoms. His droppings are better than ever, his feathers are neat and tidy, he has no discharge from eyes or nose. He still stretches and preens and even holds onto his perch and flutters his wings occasionally, but during the day he sits there with his head resting back and his eyes shut.

Is this bad? What should I do if it is? I could probably get pictures.

Icarus - Rocky may be suffering just a little bit of depression over the loss of his mate. You may need to spend a little more time with him to cheer him up.

You could also try a couple of new toys and some fresh vegies.

I must say, that completely slipped my mind as a possible cause! Thank you and a quick question, he is not hand-trained, and if he were that would certainly help me to cheer him up. Should I attempt to train him in this condition or could the stress cause him to respond adversely?

I think Rocky might be depressed too. Even tho he is not hand tamed you can and should still spend lots of time with him. Talk to him A LOT. Just hold your hand still in his cage and talk sweetly, tell him a story, or just go on about what a good boy he is.
He's probably missing ChiChi, and might even be bored without her there to hang out with. Does he play with toys?
Sleeping more than the norm can also be a sign of illness too tho, so keep a close eye on him, and if spending more time with him doesn't seem to help you should get him checked out by an Avian vet.

It's strange, but neither Rocky nor ChiChi ever seem(ed) very interested in their toys. ChiChi would stare at herself in her mirror and they would both play with their bell from time to time, but never as long or noisily as my Teacher's bird (who inspired me to get a Keet)

Sometimes they have to be shown how to play with toys. Play with the toys yourself and ooohh and ahhhh about them and say how much fun they are. Make it out like they're the best thing since millet! LOL Try out dif types of toys-but introduce then 1 at a time and slowly. Some birds are scared of a new toy until they get used to it

Yesterday when I was taming Rocky I thought about what you said and I played with the bell a bit with my thumb. He was very interested and calmed down some. This may be because ChiChi used to play with it. I will continue doing this.
