Hi everyone!
I got home from our vacation and hubby stayed home with Missy and Dixie. I notice he somehow yells at Missy to be quiet when he watches the news and I tell him not to yell at them. I go to their cage & put my hand in and tell Missy to step up. Instead of stepping up, she jumps down onto the bottom of the cage hitting herself. Dixie flies back to the cage when I pick him up.
As for jumping, I've been watching what Missy does and I think it's pretty odd. She sees the cage and jumps down and hits herself on the floor... or... she randomly jumps and hits herself on the ground. The ground = our carpet.
So... any advice?

First I just want to say, something else happened while you were gone.
I have nine birds as you know and two kids, a cat, a dog, a guinea pig, hermit crabs, and a betta fish. I'm ALWAYS yelling at someone. Including my birds if they're being TOO noisy. Nothing mean, just "hey, mommy's trying to finish a paper!" and they'll look at me as though saying, "and?...."
That being said, I think her fear has more to do with yelling. My birds do not cower from my hands ever. Even when I'm yelling. Animals, like children or people, only cower from a hand when they've been struck or threatened with a strike.
I think more has happened and that is not good or healthy for that bird. You need to find out before it's too late.

Hi everyone!
I got home from our vacation and hubby stayed home with Missy and Dixie.
If you were on vacation, who was posting yesterday under your screen name? Or was that really you? Very good question. Would you please answer this if you get a chance?? As for your birds, I agree with what has been said. You should probably look into why they are suddenly scared of your hand. It is usually a sign of physical abuse when an animal cowers away from a hand.

I too was wondering who was posting.
Emily recently had her wings clipped after being fully flighted for nearly a year. She went into a major funk and wouldn't get on my hand for almost two weeks. No one shouted at her or hit her...she was just mad about not being able to fly and getting used to not being an only bird with the introduction of Henerie.
Now she's back to her usual demanding self. :-)

When I go on vacation I bring my computer with me just to check up on the forum for updates.
Animalfriend, her wings aren't clipped. .....
My husband (before I was on vacation) would yell at Missy or Dixie to be quiet because either they were chirping or chirping even louder. I told him NOT to do that because they are very little birds and they don't like people to yell all the time at them. He still.....continues to do it. I need to show him this thread today and make sure he NEVER does it again.
Any more advice?
UPDATE 2 - The little guys [birds] are scared of the dark and thunder/lightning. Could that be another possible scare-factor?
