The vet thinks Alex, my 9 year old budgie, has a tumor or cyst on her left ovary. As some of you may know, budgies are, "tumor factories" so the vet is probably right. Right now Alex has had a lupron shot, and she's on daily steroids.
This will probably yield no results, but does anyone have any suggestions? I have trouble just resigning myself to the reality that all I can do is prolong Alex's life a little. I imagine surgery to remove the ovary would do more harm than good, but I have heard of some sort of surgery to sterilize birds who get egg bound a lot. I would like to get a second opinion, but I go to the vet who literally wrote the book on avian medicine. Does anyone know much about holistic medicine for birds?
Any insight would be appreciated.
