Cully's Mom told me that Cully is about 7 and a half months old... so you almost have to see Cully in person to know for sure... the gender and the vet could tell... and I knew Kazu was a boy when I got him back in October... his cere had become light blue already... he started molting right after i got him too... I think he is around 6 months old now.

Lol, my bird Jess is also doing this...I am considering getting her wings cut because I am convinced she will injure herself. I feel bad doing this though because Mikey flies beautifully, and if she sees him with wings, but she doesn't get to have them, she might be jealous.

I would at least consider getting her wings clipped, or at least keep very close watch over her.

One of my birds, who has a bum leg, sucked at flying at first because they'd clipped just one of his wings. Poor baby lost his balance all the time like that, even on perches. Once he got used to having the wing back, he's a great flyer. It'll just depend on the bird. smile

My two birds also have different flying abilities. Birdie is a great flyer: she can hover like a humming bird or helicopter, stop on a dime in mid flight to change direction, and dive bomb like a fighter jet. The only thing she cannot do is fly backwards. On the other hand, Verde is only so so. If she wants to fly upstairs, she needs to make two stops along the staircase while Birdie can do it non-stop.

I read somewhere that if you want your bird know how to fly, before you clip its wings you should let it learn how to fly first. When its flight feathers grow back, it will still know how to fly without banging into walls.

Cully's wings were clipped when I got her. I have no idea if she learned how to fly first or not. I wish I did.

Today she made it around the room once, landed, took off again, missed my head then managed to circle around and landed on the floor.

When she stops flying, she seems scared. I pick her up and she hops back in her cage. But the next day she's ready to try it again.

Gabriel is a miserable flyer (and lander) until his wings grow out completely. Once he has a full set, nothing can stop him. When he's growing, however, he flies into things and has (sometimes very) rough landings. But he's been smacking into things for years and not once gotten hurt. He must have bones of iron!
