Sorry. Just one more thing. My brother said: "in the wild, the parakeet might have a chance to get away".

Yes it is sad and devastateing to watch. when this topic first came up some people including myself ran across the video on you tube and we wanted to try and get things like this stopped from being posted on there. There are a lot of people who have snakes and what not and who cannot keep from feeding live but there is a big difference between that and feeding little keets. I am sorry you were so upset. Next time, do as others sometimes do, do not watch them if your warned they are bad. smile

I just checked--the video has been removed from YouTube. I didn't watch it, or even know what was in it until just now, but THANK GOD it's been removed.

In my opinion, the thing that's too horrible for words is that: in nature, the bird at least has a chance of getting away, however slim the chance. In that video, (I did not, could not watch it) the bird had no chance at all. Would that be called a "Snuff video"?
I've never seen one of those either, but I know they exist, from watching law and order on TV.

Yeah. like a cock fight or pitt bull fight. someone on here said it's nature. Nature is not getting a poor innocent entity and have humans AND the snake against it with no way out.

Also, I know from reading that snakes may or may not need to eat live prey. So I do not know what to say about that. someone on here also said, that what about the people who have mice for pets? They were probably horrified too.

To put it on u tube, and laugh about it and (seemingly) enjoy it, well that seems unacceptable to me.

A snake in the wild, will eat small animals too. What's next, the family dog or cat?

joandboys, I didn't watch it!

I think everyone knows my opinion on this by now, but I'll reiterate. There are many snakes that eat birds in the wild, so this is pretty natural. HOWEVER... these snakes are not in the wild, and there are plenty of better (not to mention more cost-effective) meals for a captive snake, like rodents.

Which brings me back to this: if this were a forum about rats and mice, and they posted a video about a snake eating a mouse, they'd get equally upset. I realize you hate it more because it's a parakeet, but who gives you the right to determine which animal has a more valuable life? A rat or a bird? Live feeding sucks, but unfortunately you can't prevent it from happening. the more you make a fuss about it, the more it's going to happen. These people are seeking attention, and gosh darnit, they're getting it.

Zookeeper, I did say that " the people who have rodents for pets would be horrified too". And I was not referring to you. I read your post when you first posted it.

The laughing and egging the snake on is where I have my problem. And of course the fact that it was a parakeet, since I own keets. I think that's reasonable enough to say.

I didn't think I was making a fuss, since I was replying to someone else's post. Sorry about that if that's the way you took it. I was over it and onward. But I felt the need to reply, and I did. I don't know what to say now.

BTW, I don't see many people apologizing for their posts. I did not mean to offend anyone.

Also, Zookeeper, I don't think anyone on here is determining anything. We're discussing it. Isn't that what we're doing?

I AM sorry if I offended you. It was not meant to be offending to anyone or any animal.
