maybe freaked, maybe not. welcome! if i may say joujou, i am not an "active" person either. i have had a 23 yr marriage. these things are so hard to figure out.men and women do those things, it is human nature. humans have egos, and there are times i am convinced that if egos didn't exist, the worl would be much less tangled! egos prevent people from telling the truth, to themselves or others. i don't want you to be hurt, but, if he dosen't have what it takes to speak to you to your face and explain what he meant... then, he may be right. you deserve everything you would give to someone else, don't let anyone walk on you.
if you have waited this long for the right one... keep waiting, because when you find him, there will be no worries. you will be able to answer your own question because it will be the "right" answer.
let your heart guide you... not take you over.
good luck dear, do what is right for you.

what would be in the mirror?..... it would show, i think, plants, birds, fishing rods, people who need a reason to smile. there would be a person among the plants, who doesn't think well of herself. because of that, (i think), she is automatically drawn to trying to help everyone else and want to see them all happy. oh yeah, the mirror probably be rattling from the base pounding from a large sub woofer and loud rock music!

OMG baby blue, take away the fishing rod and i think it might be me in the mirror!I was thinking along the same lines as what you said as I was reading everyone else's replies. Very weird! LOL In place of the fishing rod there would be a Harley. My 2 boys and my husband are also major parts of who I am and what keeps my heart beating. And I could never be complete without my dog at my side smile

I think that I am basically very honest & I mean well (and sometimes the two don't go well together).
Often I don't understand why everyone else isn't honest & well-meaning too.
Then I try to understand these other incomprehensible people.
If I am successful in understanding them, then others cannot understand why I might sympathise with dishonest or not-well-meaning people.
It can be very complicated ~ nor not. smile

How well I understand this, PDM. This is a very insightful post!

I also have to stop and think before I speak (write). It's similar to one of the steps of the 12-step recovery programs - making amends except when to do so harms others.

But it is complicated. Sometimes it may be important to say what's on one's heart, even when it may cause unease or even reveal one's own "splinters in the eye."

But when the heart is basically a loving, caring one - such as yours, PDM, I think the outcome is going to be good ultimately.

What a difficult question! What of you, Carl?

As for me, it would show the persecuted innocent and children/infants. If there's anything this heart beats for, it's little ones. Honestly, the rest of the mirror would be awfully hard and stubborn. I have no compassion for stupidity and senseless violence, nor for much else. My heart has always been like a mother, I've been told.

My childhood and life have been difficult (and joyful also, thankfully). My heart reaches out to people in their reality. Sometimes the reality is not pretty, but to change the Martina McBride song just a bit, love them [do it] anyway.

I think my heart remains open to love and to be loved. This was my prayer during my darkest hour, and God answered my prayer.

Which is the real me?

Without that mirror it's hard to be sure.

So true, PDM. I have a LONG poem where the writer talks about the different aspects of ourselves - what we actually are, what we want to be, how we see ourselves, how others see us, and so on. And it talks about the facades we hide behind because we are frightened to have anyone know us as we really are (or think we are), but we long nonetheless for someone to both know us and appreciate us.

Perhaps the best mirror is the smile (or other expression of appreciation) of someone to whom you have shown love and caring.

Joujou, welcome to the board. I'll post a response in the section that PDM moved it to (probably the romance section).

I went to another state for the wedding of a favorite uncle to a wonderful lady - Sunday and Monday, so I'm sorry I'm just now seeing these wonderful posts.
