Yes to all of the above. No one should touch the hamster until it has been cured except for the person who is treating it to get rid of the ringworm. Make sure good handwashing is used. Make sure that you watch for it to show up in the other members of the household as it can already have "gotten you" before you noticed it on the hamster. Ringworm is a fungal infection of the skin and is highly treatable, but it is a pain because it does spread and it takes a few days to show up after exposure. Good luck!

What makes you think it might be ringworm?
At any rate DEFINITELY move him away from your birds. Not only are fleas, mites and ringworm contagious but just using the flea/tick spray around your birds is not good for them.

I've had hamsters before but never problem with mites or ringworm. My rabbit had ringworm before and my vet gave me some ointment to put on the affected areas. I was also told i could use over the counter ointment for athletes foot/ringworm etc. Like clotrimazole creme. Call your vet and see what he recommends smile
good luck with your hammie smile

Oh, I thought you had taken it to the vet and found out that it did have ringworm. I agree, you need to take it in. All they do is shine a special light over it and the fungus will light up. So, it shouldn't cost too much. If it is ringworm they should give you a cream for it. But, using flea and tick spray on the hamster will not help ringworm and may make the little guy sick.

Does it say on the bottle that it is good for ringworm? Maybe I'm wrong, but the fungal stuff generally has to have another kind of med...?

YES YES YES

the hamster needs to be separated and if you touch him, his cage or anything he has touched you need to bleach it, and wash your hands in bleach water or a very good deep cleansing soap.

it is extremly contagious to birds, to humans and anything else.

and it is very very difficult to deal with in birds.

i would get the birds checked by an avian vet to make sure.

i didnt read the later replies.

DO NOT ever treat for things enless you know thats what they have, and certainly do not treat birds without the express direction for an avian vet.

i would take the hamster into the vet and see what the deal is, fleas, ticks, mites and ringworm are all infectious to birds as well as hamster and can be a extremly serious problem in both.

Yeah, I agree with Helwa. Also, if there's fleas, there are probably worms too.
