Hi Everyone! I haven't been on this forum in so long. Here's what I've been dealing with since July 30,2008: My little budgie Preciousbaby has layed 52 eggs. I realize this is hard to believe, but this is a dangerous situation which could be fatal. She had her first Lupron injection two weeks ago and has since layed four eggs. Her next vet appt. is tomorrow when she will receive round two of the hormone injection to stop this laying. I love this bird so much and she thinks I am her mate. The vet told me she's laying due to the fact that she is very comfortable and is in love with me. Please I could use your support with this situation. I do hope this next injection stops her raging hormones. Please keep Preciousbaby in your prayers and thoughts. Thanks so much!! PB's Mom Joni.

[size:11pt]CaribbeanMom hit on some important points. Also, I have heard, as may you have, about [color:#990000]reducing the “length of the day” by cutting back on the “daylight” hours for the bird. Shorter days simulate “winter” & apparently birds instinctively recognize winter as bad time to start a clutch. As you may also know, it is important to supplement an egg-laying budgie with [color:#990000]calcium. :)
I am really sorry to hear about your little girl. It is bitter-sweet, isn’t it? :( Your vet says she is doing this because she [color:#990000]loves you so much. But of course, it is not healthy for her. I hope her treatment starts working soon. I’ll be thinking about the both of you. . . [color:#990000]GOOD LUCK!!!

Ditto all the above advice. Sounds like you are already doing everything you can! I soo hope this next injection does the trick...the poor little thing. I can't even imagine that many eggs! Whew

Wow! I can't believe she left one in your shirt. That is crazy! I hope the next injection works.

I also have a chronic egg-layer: to date 76. What are these injections you're having done? I haven't heard about them. I've been trying all the other suggestions (i.e. moving cage around, letting her raise some babies) but am next going to try buying some fake eggs. Hope that your PreciousBaby slows down!!
Best wishes, Kelly Kai
