Anybody else's keets have major mood swings? This morning, Sushi was being sweet... getting up on my finger eagerly and letting me nuzzle beneath her beak. Half an hour later, she decided it would be fun to run away from me when I tried to get her on my finger... not so much being skittish, I think it's a game to her. Is there a way to convince her to behave no matter what mood she happens to be in?

Also, ever since she's discovered bells (she has a few of them), she doesn't want to come out of the cage. I have it open at least a few hours a day, but she'd rather just sit inside and play. Is this a problem? I sort of figure that when she gets bored of the bells she'll start coming out again, but until then, should I just let her do her own thing?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Maybe you could put some of the bells outside of the cage?

Kacey has mood swings too. (except hers take a couple of hours or even a whole day to change mostly  ) One day she will be very eager and insistant on coming out to play, but the next, she won't want to come out at all. It's like her bursts of "I want to play!" come one day and are gone the next. smile Kinda like cool weather here in Phoenix! :p

I agree with getlow, I think it would work if you put the bells outside the cage. smile

I thought you were writing about my bird when I read this. He's pretty moody too and it seems to depend a lot on whether it's sunny outside. He is happier when it's a sunny day.

I think the outside bell idea is a good one. Try putting a bell on his play gym if he has one. Millet is always a good bribery tool too. Beyond that, I just kind of accept that Aussie has his own moods and interests just like me.

Yup a bird isn't a robot you can brainwash into being sweet all the time. It's like having a girlfriend or a boyfriend - you have to love them no matter what their mood. Would you really want a world where everything was the exact same, every day? smile

Thanks for your advice, everyone. :-) Good point, Lisa... I guess I should be proud of Sushi for being such an individual, right? ;-)
