Yes ~ politicians may change their minds and their ways, as may voters.
Also, politicians who become too comfortable may lose their way, their priorities, their reliability, etc, not to mention their health and memories, etc.

Yes, I agree. I'm not sure what the limit is (if any) on numbers of terms that U.S. Congressmen can have. My uncle had eight terms, and could have remained longer. He retired because of my aunt's illness.
The U.S. limits presidential terms to two terms of office. And some states do not allow a governor to succeed him- or herself.
U.S. Supreme Court Justices have life-time tenure. Only death or retirement (or impeachment?) can end their terms. In a way that diminshes political lobbying or control, but it is still there in the appointment and confirmation process and in the background.
Sometimes I wonder if you had a computerized lottery which drew names from all the world's population to be the political leaders for a short length of time, would there be any real change for the better? You'd still have the civil servants who really run the show.

I didn't mean to be so serious that eveyone stopped talking. Okay, how about this. In order to seriously limit the politicians wanting to stay too long in office, how about it being like it was in the beginning (at least in the U.S. - I think, but I'm not sure) - no pay at all. Just serve and still provide your own income at the same time.

But going off Carl's idea, what if they got paid minimum wage for the first year lol, that would def. change things.

I've seen some politician who remained in office for a long length of time become too powerful for the country's good.they tend to feel everything they do is alright.so many deal are more then likely made.that just my opinion.

Do we need a new question?
