Maybe he is just having a bad day..like we all have once in a while. Maybe he is lonely? Could you get him a friend possibly?

Or maybe he is bored? Does he have some toys to play with in his cage? A good thing to do is to rotate their toys once in a while.

If you can it would be good to take him out of his cage for awhile so he can streach his wings and fly around. Only do this if you can do so safely in a room with no other pets like a cat or dog. Make sure window and doors are shut also.

Another possibility, but I hope its not so is that maybe he is feeling a little under the weather..sick. Does he have any discharge around his nostrils or is he sneezing at all? Does he sit up on his perch all fluffed up?

If he is eating and drinking his water normally he should be okay. Try to give his some delicious veggie treats. Does he have a favorite?

Hope he perks up for you soon smile

Besides what's already been mentioned-

Does he have tv/radio/music by him, sometimes mine will only really sing when there is music going, the tv blaring, or even when I'm vaccuming. They like noise, silence in turn makes them silent.

By discharge iluvnature means is there any stickiness or does it look dirty around his nostrils?
As for veggies-they are VERY important in your keets diet to keep him healthy. Some favorites are corn, broccoli, carrots, romaine or green leaf lettuce(not the ordinary iceberg lettuce-it's not really good for them),celery, parsley. There are lots of veggies they can eat-I'll try to find the list, or maybe someone else already has the link?
Anyway make sure you wash veggies thoroughly! Chop some up really good put 'em in a dish and maybe sprinkle a little seed on them. He might not like them at first but it's important to keep trying. You can even hang a piece of broccoli in his cage with a string or clip a piece of lettuce to his cage bars with a clothespin. I think maybe vegs are more important than fruits but..
A few fruits are apples(absolutely NO SEEDS!! The seeds are toxic),peaches, grapes, pears, melons, bananas.Lots Be sure to wash and remove all seeds!
Hopefully he is not sick, maybe just having a bad day? Keep an eye on him-if he's not eating normally,or if he's puffed up a lot, or his poo looks different-runny or not as much of it, then he could be sick and needs to go to Avian vet.
Keep us posted. Hope everything is fine, and good luck with veggies!

welcome to the forum.if your bird is new to your home it's acting normal.it can take weeks for a new bird to settle in.take a look at Lisa hand training.it has helped many new members.budgies can be very funny acting.like people there are times when they don't want to be bothered.new birds need an adjustment period.during this time it's recommended that you shouldn't try to grab or touch him until your able to place your hand in the cage close to him and he doesn't run or fuss.good luck keep us posted as to how things are going.
