I would have had a heart attack, LOL!
I hate those things, they look like cockroaches. I am ever so careful when I feed my tarantula, making sure not even one of those scary things escapes!
My hubby says I'm nuts because I'm terrified of the crickets but not the tarantula, LMAO!

I did find a great thing to feed the crickets though. Bird pellets. The crickets love them and they have lots of vitamins that my tarantula will eventually get.

lol @ the roundabout way slc's tarantula gets her vitamins! Again, i learned something new....crickets stink! I guess whenever i see one, it isn't long before its crushed so i don't get a chance to smell them. oh well.. a missed opportunity! Thanks for the lessons!

There are crickets free all over my house.. lol. I just don't care anymore... haha. slc- i never thought of using bird pellets as gut-load for crickets. I've been using "Total bites" cricket food (these green squishy cubes) for 7 years now and it works really well for me smile

That's what I use too, Sam...well the orange cubes, and I throw potato and yam slices in too, every couple of days. I have only seen 1 cricket since they all got out, so I guess I did a decent job of rounding them up...and I'm sure the cat crunched on a few, too! LOL

LOL! In a way this reminds me of when I used to raise bugs to free lol I used to raise monarchs ALL the time and one day I wanted to try Praying Manti lol wow.... ok so I went to home depot (where they used to sell them) and they were still in an eggsack in a NOT clear plastic cup with a lid on it lol, the people who worked there said that they would hatch in about a week, I brought them home and looked in the cup every morning for about 2 days. Imagine my surprise on the 3rd day when I opened the cup THOUSANDS of little praying mantis babies JUMPED OUT AT ME!!!! I was startled and dropped the cup to the floor and the carpet was GREEN with babies!!! lol...The cats were eating them and I felt so bad, Finally we managed to wrangle up about 500 of them and put them in the backyard and guess what? the ants ate the rest of them because they were too young to set free! I Didn't know! lol they didn't come with instructions and the people at home depot didn't tell me to wait a few weeks before freeing them!

Needless to say... I stuck to my butterflys and NEVER raised praying manti again!

NIGHTMARE!

lol, yeah every year, we get calls at work (since we're an "exotic" pet store) from people who have hundreds of baby praying manti and want to raise them, but need something to feed them (but we dont have anything that small!) lol usually we end up going with fruit flies.. but that's really all there is.

Praying mantises are cool but they totally creep me out! lol I would've really freaked over THAT many at once.
You guys with the crickets- aren't they noisy? I know it drives me crazy when there's just one in the house and I keep hearing it and can never find the little bxxxxxx lol I guess I never thought about what multiple crickets smell like. They stink huh? And Jessica, I still would've loved to have seen it on video! Any chance you can do a replay?? LOLS

Well, these crickets are small and don't have their wings yet. So no singing! I wish I would've gotten it on vid, everyone would've LOL'd their butts off!

Yes, they smell. Pretty bad, too. You have to keep them pretty clean or they'll get really stinky!
