I was browsing craigslist when I came across a plea for help from a keet owner. She said her parakeet's leg got stuck in it's cage this morning and was cut and bleeding. She said her vet recommended her (over the phone) to superglue it shut. So she did and now the leg is completely black and it won't stand on it. I e-mailed her and haven't received a response back yet but has anyone ever heard of using superglue on a parakeet???

grrrr i hate it when vets do stupid stuff like this just cuz they dont want to do their jobs that day.

super glue CAN work to seal a wound however to use it on an animal so small as a keet it deadly.

they bird needs immediate avian vet attention.infection has probally set in and has no way to get out.

wow..i've never heard that before and would think logicially that would hurt a poor little bird. I would have questioned the vet...besides, i never heard of anything like that for humans! Superglue is no joke when it gets stuck on your fingers!

That poor bird I hope she brings him to the vet. Couldn't she of put some flour on the wound to stop the bleeding?

This one I don't understand. Please explain it to me. You have a bird that is in need of help and you post it on Craigs List?? What am I missing here? That bird is obviously in need of immediate help.

yea super glue can be used in emergency situations to seal a wound. but this is on a human being or equally sized being. but that isnt the end of the care for the wound lol

you must seek medical attention and they will soak the wound in a solution that will easily remove the super glue and treat the wound.

it is toxic so it should not beused enless its an emergency

my mom uses it to fix broken finger nails HAHA it works very well

but to use it on a bird is just ridiculous and honestly he should loose his lisence for even suggesting it as its highly toxic to a bird. and im pretty certain infection set in and is just growing in his leg. gang green either has or will set in as well.

the bird could end up losing his leg.

also the super glue seals off ANYTHING it comes in contact with, so it would seal off veins and blood vessels as well, which you can see why that would be a problem.

the bird is in extreme pain and needs to see an AVIAN vet as soon as possible. i just hope its not to late and the bird is able to keep its leg

Unbelieveable! I hope it's going to be ok And boy would that vet hear a piece of my mind!!!!!!! Grrrr how stupid!
