when i tried to give my parakeet a bath today, i noticed blood under it's wing. what is this? it is still bleeding/..i dont know what happened. is there anything i can do until i am able to take it to the vet?

It sounds like your bird has broken a blood feather. Has the bleeding stopped? You can stop the bleeding with some quikstop or some flour.

yes the bleeding has stopped. i tried to put some flour. do i need to do anything else.do i have to take it to the vet?

Yes, if it is a broken blood feather, the feather needs to be removed and that is not something that can just be done. A lot of damage can be done by someone pulling a feather when they don't have a clue what they are doing.

do you know if it was still bleeding or did it look like dried blood b/c the feathers are transparent?

it does sound like a blood feather and those should be remove.it's something that has to be done entirely correctly or you can cause a bird harm.there is a topic that showned how to do that.but for someone one is nervous better to that your bird to the dr.

You've had good advice here.

I would just add, for future reference, that if the bleeding is already stopped, you'd don't need to put flour on it.
