I was just gonna say I'm uber impressed that yo're working so hard to support them. i know for a fact aht If i had told my mom I wanted to be a vegetarian (or some of my friends had told their moms they wanted to eat meat) our mothers would have said tough kiddo, you eat what I eat until you get old enough to cook your own food. ANYway I also wanted to suggest drinks like Gatorade or Vitawater for him. They're sweet so he'll want to drink it and there are a lot of vitamins and other things that he needs... my friend was a vegetarian for like 10 years and she started having huge heart problems because she wasn't getting enough vitamins and her Dr. was like ok start taking vitamins and drink 2 liters of Gatorade a day until you come for your revisit...

Ditto.
Gatorade and Pedialyte pops.
My dentist/doctor and nurse friends all recommend them. I have low blood pressure and if it is hot or I am dancing or drinking alcohol or hiking (not all at once) they keep me alive. I can't eat large amounts of food at once so it's hard to hydrate If I drink I don't eat there is only room for one. When I has the Norwalk virus the hospital gave me half of a Pedialyte pop to try to introduce something into my stomach, now I try to keep them on hand all the time.

... and if it is hot or I am dancing or drinking alcohol or hiking (not all at once) CM, you're gonna kill me one day ... I laugh so hard when I read your posts ... I just had a mental image of you drinking alcohol & dancing down a hiking trail. LMAO

Should I have him checked for hypoglycemia? Is it genetic because the alpha-thalasemia and sickle cell trait he got from me. Also, would the gatorade and pedialyte do well for me too?

I swear by Gatorade, i don't think it is appropriate for anyone who shouldn't have salt or lots of sugar as it has both but it absorbs faster than water. Not that I drink excessively but even after a few beers and a night of dancing you lose a lot of water, if i drink a gatorade before bed I wake up refreshed. It amazed me the first time I tried it, also if I have been vomiting it helps restore your electrolytes it's great esp. if you have the stomach flu where you can't eat etc. It isn't like a soft drink/water/ juice that you drink all the time.

it has electolytes and also some vitamins and minerals that others would get from their meat eating diets, that's why Sarah had to drink it...

Actually gatorade is mostly sugar, very few electolytes or vitamins. There are some similar poduct you can get at health food stores and I think one of the best is Emergen-C. It is a powder (comes in individual packets)that you mix with water, it fizzes a bit and has lots more potassium, B-Vitamins, Vitamin C, & minerals.

Bump -- anyone else have any input on how to replace the nutrients you get from meat with other things? Because I'm going vegetarian ...
