Hello all, Bernard seems to be starting his first moult and is very very grumpy.
I was wondering how long it usually takes for them to moult? It's quite upsetting that he hates me all of a sudden after how far we've come (finally)lol.
The more pressing problem is that I'm going on holiday in four days and am worried that his wings will grow back while I'm away. My aunt was supposed to look after him but only agreed to it because she knows that he's easy to care for with his wings clipped. Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated.

I don't know how quickly the bird will regain flight with the molt. How long are you going to be gone?

I am pretty sure a molt can go from a week to two or three depending on the bird but I'm not real sure. Aruba was molting when I got him and he hasn't had a second molt yet.

Maybe see if your avain vet makes house calls and they could come do a clipping if needed. Might be costly, but might be worth it?

I'm going away for two weeks!

All of the vets i've called have said that they only do house calls for sick pets. frown

Thanks for the thoughts though

I take Lucky to a nearby petstore and they clip his wings for a few dollars. I'm not sure if petco will do it but you could find a pet store and tell your Aunt that she can take them there if they need clipping.
