Have any of you discovered the joy of foot toys?
Esso never seemed to like playing on my desk or on the floor - he always seemed to prefer to perch on something. Finally a very knowledgeable friend of mine suggested foot toys - so that he would have something to make him want to be on a flat surface, and she recommended these:


Esso loves them! I started playing with them while he was still on one of his tree perches, so he would have to lean all the way upside down to pick one out of my hand. he would hold it then toss it and i would get it back and repeat - just like playing with a baby in a highchair -
then i started showing him the toys on my desk and by that point he knew that they were HIS toys, so he hopped down to play, and with some coaxing he will go down to the floor to play with them. they are easy to manipulate with both beak and claws, and really adds a new dimension to their play. The toys also give you a fun way to interact with your keet. Now every night i put all 4 of the toys in his food dish, and he goes and tosses each one of them out before eating or he will carry one back to his favorite perch- they end up all over the cage floor.
I got them on line at PetCo and they are dirt cheap, and i highly recommend them!

thanks! I have seen those before but was unsure of how or why they would play with them. I will have to get some later this week.

Golee that is so neat you need to set your video camera up for that one that would be neat to watch. I am doing to check them out.

I just got Cully some of those last week, but I haven't gotten them out of the package yet. I can't wait to try them out.

Hey Essos mom I have some of those foot toys and Tattoo loves them.He plays with them all the time.

Yes! I have been planning to introduce Gebo to these as soon as he gets less cage dependent.

Right now he does play with a cedar wood ball on the bottom of his cage sometimes, but not on the floor yet.

Once he starts feeling more independent of his cage, I plan to buy several of those!

Cully - you may need to provide a little encouragement at first - either play with them yourself or offer them right up to cully's beak - so Cully can hold it. Esso looks forward to the toys just like food now, especially the green and pink one!

here is a pic of esso enjoying some of his life's passions - his wiffle ball and his foot toy -
i stuck the toy in there and if you look closely, you will see he has one foot holding onto the wiffle ball, and using his beak to get the toy out - it is sort of like the rubicks cube for him.

oh cool those look fun. tiki might want some for christmas

I got all four of those foot toys! I love watching Mango carry them off in his beak it's so cute!!! >_<
