I know you should contact a vet...but that's not possible for me tonight, so if anyone has any helpful info I would appreciate it...

I wanted to spend time with the keets tonight, so I got them all out of the cage and took them too my room with the kids. They were all doing okay, with exception to Flappsie. His little feet felt very warm in comparison to the other keets and he kept opening his mouth making a clicking sort of noise...looked like he was talking and then he looked to be panting...then he had diarreah on my sons leg. I've never seen him like this before...I've seperated him from the others, but I feel cruel...he's climbing around the cage...acting his normal self now, just all isolated and lonely...I don't know what to do...cover him and hope he's still alive in the morning...put him back with the others...I though I could monitor his poops better this way?!?!?!

Could it be he was over anxious from me getting him out? what do I do tonight? keep him seperate and alone...poor baby!?!?! I'm wanting opinions tonight on how to deal with the situation...a vet is not an option tonight, so any help now would be appreciated.

I forgot to mention...they've been having broccoli a bit lately and eating a lot of their cuttle bones...I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not....

I'm sorry to say he is sick, and you will need to get him to a vet as soon as you can.

In the meanwhile, do you have a medicine dropper? How about some liquid vitamins for birds? If not, go to the pet store and get a bottle of them that has the dropper. Usually they say you can put it in the water, or if a keet is having health issues, you can administer it directly to the bird. If I were you I'd give him 2 drops of liquid vitamins.

In addition to the vitamins, see if you can get him to eat some broccoli or dark leafy greens. This will give him additional vitamins, and nutrition that he needs.

Water is also very important, especially if he's having diarreah. You can either wash out the dropper you use for vitamins, or wash your hands well, dip a finger in water, and give it to your keet from your finger. This way you know he's getting some water in his over heated, dehydrated system.

Hopefully this will help him a bit; however, you REALLY need to get him to a vet ASAP tomorrow!

Good luck sweetie!

Thank you...I have some vitamins...

do you think its cruel to seperate him...he's frantic, climbing all over the other cage...I have it near the others and they're both covered...but I just don't know...

Another update, his poops in the seperate cage are completely normal...not watery or runny at all...he's eating and acting normal...except lonely....I'll keep watching him tonight.

Hum? Arubas feet were warm two days ago and I was wondering the same thing. BTW they have been normal since.

Will you be taking him to the vet? Keep us posted as to what the vet has to say and how he is doing.

Aruba sends hugs.

I will monitor tonight and if there are any further signs of watery poops in the am...I will call and see what they suggest I do. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. I appreciate it.

The clicking and gaping could also be indications of Crop infection (I think-from what I have read). So keep an eye on that too.

I most certainly will. I have never seen him doing that before...I didn't know if my kids upset him or what....I've been looking in my books and it was suggested that the diarrhea could be from eating too much fresh food...I just wonder why it was just in that moment...his warm feet were odd...I will definitely be checking to make sure and call someone in the am.
