In the night, this always happens. In the days, this never happens. Say like when 8:00pm arrives - I checked to see how my keet was doing only to realize that he his not on the perch, only hanging on the top of the cage. Sometimes he bites, but still allows me to place him somewhere else like on the perch after *several* attempts. Because:

Days = bird afraid to go to exit, so he loves the perch.
Nights = bird not afraid to go close to the exit, and seems to be afraid to go near to the perch.

BTW, I have a step-by-step book about budgies and they said that "budgies can become wild inside the cage for no apparent reason." They recommend that the "lights be turned on and talk reassuringly to the budgie." Only thing is that the bird doesn't listen and cares. Probably it is because he is annoyed... although I am not totally sure.

Sometimes birds like hanging on the cage. I know someone's Batboy used to sleep like a bat by clinging to the top of the cage.
