My new pal, Einstein, is settling into his new home and getting used to the new sights and sounds brilliantly! I've found a couple of websites with some good budgie sounds, like contented chattering, and tweeting. Ive played a couple of samples to him, and hes reacted instantly, tweeting back in reply. Ive only done this a couple of time as a sort of experiment, each time with my hand near my laptop speaker so he might think it is my hand making the noise.
Hearing the sounds seems to perk him up and excite him a bit, but is it actually a good idea in the long run to let him listen and respond, or will it 'torment' him as he's not actually seeing them...? your thoughts

I have always heard that it is not a good idea because then he will be stressed trying to figure out where they are and wondering why they left him when the sound stops. Most keets enjoy music and will chirp along to that. Plus as they get more used to their new home they will get more vocal.

Eventuly your little buddy will just sing and chirp if you want him to or not :P

If your goal is to get your keet to speak English, then avoid playing other bird noises for him. He will repeat the noises that he hears often, so make English be what he hears most often.

I agree that it should be avoided. When two birds can't see each other and hear a chirping noise it's usually a "i'm over here, come join the flock" call. your bird will probably get stressed out if it hears the other "bird" but can't find it... thinking it either got killed or abandoned it.

The key with parakeets is patience. Don't worry that he's not making sounds just yet. Give him time to adjust to his new surroundings and just fill the air with the sound of music or TV and you'll get some happy chirps in no time smile
