Can anyone tell me what the precautions are for parakeets and using a wood stove for heat and a gas stove for cooking?

Dont put the birds near the stoves, it may give off harsh fumes that could potentially kill your birds. Put your birds in a well ventilated area or seperate room! Make sure their is no draft that can cary a fume! Im sure they will be fine, but remember~keets our only about 3-4inches tall and are alot more susepticle to fumes and toxins. Their body cant handle smells and fumes like ours can! Ohh, and when cooking dont use tephlon or non-stick materials and be careful of carbon-monoxide when using the heat!

welcome to the forum.placing keets near the stove is a very bad idea,it can cause the keets to become very ill.a room next to the stove might be alrignt if it's well ventilated.but I would recommed placing as far away as possible..read lisa form on training and the breeding forum.

the gas would be more harmful. a well maintained wood stove with good draft shouldn't allow any smoke in the room. folks have kept birds with wood heat, but i know canaries were used in mines because they were sensitive to gas, other birds may be sensitive too.--nicolo
