So my roommate last night was babysitting a 6 year old, so I let the bird out of the cage. He was nicely playing with the bird and held it on his finger. Then, he decided he wanted to touch Tweety's tail. Tweety didn't like it so he flew and the boy was holding onto his tail feathers hard enough to pull both of them out!!

My poor Tweety looks like a shortened bird without his tail. Luckily, the feathers weren't blood feathers or anything. I just want to know if it is a problem for them to lose both of their tail feathers. How long could it take them to grow back? The little boy felt terrible and I feel worse. My poor baby Tweety!!

He'll be fine because i already had one of my birds like that without anyone pulling it out and he was fine and eventually grew back. Now my Diamond is about to lose one of her feather tail but no worries they will grow back. smile

Thanks!! I just felt really bad about it. About how long did it take for your bird to grow them back? Funny thing was he didn't make a noise when it happened.

P.S. Your birds are gorgeous!!

A friend of mine had a similar situation happen. Her daughter was crawling after the bird on the floor and the bird stopped and she didn't and landed on her tail. EVERY SINGLE tail feather was GONE! frown She was so sad but after a few weeks they started coming in. smile Give it time and your birds' will grow back too! smile One thing I do recommend is giving Tweety some moulting and conditioning formula along with his regular food. smile You can find it at any Petsmart or Petco. smile You only need to sprinkle 1/4 tsp. in with the regular seed.

Thanks 3budgies for my AWESOME AVATAR!! \:\)

It may take long considering the feathers weren't planning on growing back. I'm going to hold out hope!!

It'll grow back! It will take longer than if he had just been moulting but they will still come in. smile

Thanks, Tweets. I will pick up some formula today. smile I wonder too if maybe he is due for a molt. It was strange he didn't make any noise when they came out. It was surprising.

OOOH NOOO! Poor Tweety!! Hopefully that won't interfere with their taming progress. It sounds like they may be coming around, if they are letting people hold them. At least feathers grow back, it could have been worse!!
