I been splitting the parakeets apart. Male in one cage and female in the other. I been thinking should I put them in the same cage again? I don't want them to breed. I just don't want egg binding to occur to my other parakeets like it did to my other parakeet.I only have kept 6 parakeets and sold the rest.

I would advise keeping them seperate, because if you put them togather, and they do start breeing, then you will have to seperate them which is very stressful for them...Also I beleive that it was alot of work for you to get all 20 or so of those parakeets sold, so do you want to take a chance to go through that again?
Just my opinion though. smile How mnay males and how many females do you have?

Hey Steph! Glad to see you posting more often, I missed ya. :-)

The only certain way to avoid breeding and eggs is separation. As you know from past experience, they can and do sometimes breed unexpectedly when in a cage together. Also, once a pair have bred and raised a clutch, they are that much MORE likely to do it again in the future.

Only you can decide what to do, but be prepared for more eggs if you do put them back together.

i have two birds--a male and a female--that i keep together with no problem. but if you really don't want eggs, the safest route would definitely be to keep them seperate, because, like 3budgies said, if you keep them together and then seperate them, you'll have a couple of unhappy birdies, and we wouldn't want that frown

Yeah, same here. I have 2 males and 1 female and no breeding yet (knock on wood) but it seems like you definitly don't want to breed, so I'd keep them seperate. But you can let them out together! smile

I wouldn't put them together if I didn't want babies.

Put them together and they'll breed for sure. Also ensure that they aren't absent from their cage at the same time.

Thanks for your concern. I haven't post for ages but I'm back.
