Because the bands are different for all clubs and breeders, there is really no way to find out. The whole band idea is one I am not so sold on. The system is not standardized. You can look for a year of hatch, *sometimes it's there* but usually it's just a string of numbers that mean nothing to the average person.

For example some of the band numbers on my birds are: 11565 and another is 08964. certainly those are not dates. My guess is they are hatch numbers, and breeder club number, but who can be sure???!!!???

Again, the whole band idea needs to be standardized, or really it is of no use to anyone but the person banding them.

It really depends on if the state your in or your bird comes from. Some states have mandatory banding rules and others dont. So far California is the only state I have found that does it smart and puts the year of birth inside a lil bear shape on the band so you know what your really looking at.

I read that a left band is a state band and the right leg is usually a breeder specific or "family" band" used by the breeder to know what line their babies came from. On the state bands, usually the first numbers and letters refer to the Budige SOciety they belong to the Breeder ID number and the # order of the babies birth to that budgie in that year.

For example ABS04213 07(this is usually facing sideways to keep it separate from the rest of the band info)

Would be American Budgerier Society Breeder #4 hatch # 213 Year born 2007

Though I agree with KeetCrazy - it is just too unstandard to really be able to research some of them.

Charlie has one of those too, PP-1714. I didn't really think too much about it, but I suppose you could find the breeder possibly, although I did get mine from Petco. Or if he get's lost.
