could villageidiot please find this and answer, lol:
are you giving your keets a powder calcium supplement mixed into their food? are they getting fresh foods and vegis daily? how big is the cage you are breeding them in? what are the dimensions on the cage you ordered? are you going to keep any of the babies if they hatch? if so, how many?
you know that you're going to have to seperate the sexes in 2 or more different cages. this includes all babies and parents!

They have crushed egg shell in their food. The vet said it is cheaper then the powder at the pet store. We are planning on selling the babies to good homes. The first 2 weeks I offered fresh fruit and veges each day and even tried with them on my finger. The previous owner tried and they wont eat fruits and veges. My step dad is making me a cage. It will be here the end of may. someone suggested 3x4x3 or somthing like that. He is going to try. If not then he will give me money on getting one. unless someone wants to see me one! lol

that has some...so i guess it'll be fine... =\\ They have a cuttlebone in there too right?
Ok. well...BEFORE you start breeding ANY animal, they must be on the healthiest diet possible. for birds, it's fresh foods and pellets. this ensures the babies are healthy, less/no complications occur, and overall wellbeing.
They're tiels right? then 4X3X4 should be about what you should build, or LARgEr!

I always thought a cuttle bone was needed if you were breeding or not. My keets have one and the teils do also. when i had a keet as a young child the pet store said i 'needed' a cuttle bone. i have tried slowly transfering them to pellets and they will have no part of it. they have been raised on seeds since babies. my keets kick out the pellts when i mix them with the seeds.

it is. Just making sure you have one in there for them Before breeding them, you should have switched them over. It can take months to do this, but it's essential, esp. for breeding. when/if the babies hatch, when they come out, start them on pellets (add some warm water to soften them up a bit, they're too hard for the babies at this time.) and also introduce them to vegis and fruit chopped up fine. for a treat, let them eat some seed.

te parents will feed them but when they start to wean thats when you should intro them to pellets, also if you want the babies to be sociable you should handle them for a few minutes every day

If using crushed egg shell daily you don't need cuttlebone.

you can cook an egg like normal just dont put any extra things to it like salt or butter, scrable the eggs (and take the shell and crush it up real well and mix it in with the egg)

did you clean out the nesting box? cuz that could be a bad thing, but im not sure... i'd pm llpb or aerial
and yang no, you do not have to hand feed the babies, the parents will feed them. Hand feeding should actually be a last resort unless you are a professional breeder. It could cause a lot more bad then good if an unexperianced un trained person tries to hand feed.

village: NOO!!! you're nOT supposed to clean the nesting box until the babies are at least a week old! But some of the old nesting material back in there...anything really with their scent in it. Just leave them alone, and in a quiet place, even cover the cage like on 3 sides. Hopefully they'll go back in. =] yang: nope! The parents will feed them all by themselves. Read my breeding post. I say a little more about it in there. =] mtlj's mom: you don't need the eggshell (i've never used it.) as long as you have a powder calcium supplement. =] and i know you have that.

Seperating the parents will not prevent them from laying eggs. If she lays an 8th egg, get her to a vet...

I agree w/ 3bud! if you're going to breed your keets, then make sure you answered yes to ALL of my questions in my breeding post...this is a big undertaking!!! WHY are you breeding them?? Ok....woooow. First of all, the female has to be in breeding mode, between 1and 4 and the male has to have a Deep blue cere and between 9 mos. and 4. You must have money saved up incase a vet is needed, and you need to actually have an avian vet, I'm assuming you do? Are you going to keep the babies? How big is the cage you're trying to breed them in? Do you have all the supplies yet? geez...you can't just "put a nesting box in" and that's it, they breed! it's MUCH MUCH more than that. Please read my whole all about breeding parakeets post in this section! LLPB
