PDM-Did you have a keet as a child?
Yes, our family had a blue budgie called 'Beauty'.
We had him for quite a few years, from the late 1950s or early 60s. Mum tried to teach him (I think it was a him) to talk and he would come out with a few things that sounded like 'Hello Beauty', etc, but nothing too clear, as far as I remember. He was fed on 'Trill' and always had a cuttle bone.
I think Mum occasionally allowed him out of his cage when I was at school, so that I wouldn't run in and open a door.
Back then birds did tend to be just kept in their cages ~ and relatively small cages at that.
I have been trying to find a photo on the Internet that reminds me of Beauty & his cage.
This cage is a similar shape:

My parents decided that moving him back and forth wasn't good for him, so he then stayed with my grandparents. We were a bit upset, obviously, but we saw him very regularly.
He eventually developed a tumour and died ~ but he was quite old by then. I understand that this is quite a common problem with budgies.
