PDM-Did you have a keet as a child?
Yes, our family had a blue budgie called 'Beauty'.
We had him for quite a few years, from the late 1950s or early 60s. Mum tried to teach him (I think it was a him) to talk and he would come out with a few things that sounded like 'Hello Beauty', etc, but nothing too clear, as far as I remember. He was fed on 'Trill' and always had a cuttle bone.
I think Mum occasionally allowed him out of his cage when I was at school, so that I wouldn't run in and open a door.
Back then birds did tend to be just kept in their cages ~ and relatively small cages at that.
I have been trying to find a photo on the Internet that reminds me of Beauty & his cage.
This cage is a similar shape:http://www.parrot.com.hk/cages/hagen_s/b3710.jpg
He looked a bit like one of these, as far as I can remember:http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/39797000/jpg/_39797757_budgie1_bbc_203.jpghttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...le_budgie.jpg/120px-Blue_male_budgie.jpg
One year we went on holiday and my grandparents looked after him. My parents decided that moving him back and forth wasn't good for him, so he then stayed with my grandparents. We were a bit upset, obviously, but we saw him very regularly.
He eventually developed a tumour and died ~ but he was quite old by then. I understand that this is quite a common problem with budgies.
