Was just looking at some types of pet birds on net, and came across the Quaker/Monk parakeet, so was curious.

Anyone able to give me more info or anyone who owns a Monk (Quaker) Parakeets?

Thanks smile

I just absolutely loved mine! They are very possesive of their owners, and love to bite the toes off parakeets. But other than that, they are a delight!

Mine took showers with me, and went to the grocery stores with me. I even took mine camping and to the movies. He knew to hide inside my jacket when we were outside, because that is what i tought him. And when the lights went out at the movie theater, he'd poke out his head to get at the popcorn.

as long as you do not live in these places Note: The Quaker Parakeet is outlawed in many states, including : California, Wyoming, New Jersey, Hawaii, and Georgia. The reason they are outlawed in several states is because they are considered a potential agricultural pest. There are now established breeding colonies ( originally escaped pets) in several states, including New York, New Jersey, New Orleans-Louisiana, Dallas-Texas, Bridgeport/Fairfield CT, and Illinois.
I wish the best of luck

Lol, read every usefull link on both types could find on good, and some other links =)

And dont think the state thing is problem as im UK =) Far as i can tell they're legal here cause I did some more research and there are a couple of breeders nearby where i live.

Thanks for all replys =) Will be little over a year before can get one though.. =(

Leaning towards Caiques because of they're playfullness (and destructfullness) atm. But got lots of time to think bout it =)

I just found some info on monk parakeets and found that this thread existed.

It seems that these parakeets are quite controversial.

Is this talking about the same type of bird?

There are a lot of wild Quakers in Chicago and when the utility co does work and finds nest they give the eggs to a bird club there that incubates them and then places the babies for adoption.
