So...

Was wondering if anyone has a list of budgie body language? Found this one on net, if anyone has stuff to add or can correct it would be helpfull =) Would clear some confusion possibly :P

------------------------------------------------------------

Preening another birds head or preening your hair or eyelashes-This gesture is like saying "I love you".

Raised wings- The budgie way of cooling off when he or she gets overheated.

"Yawning"-Budgies usually yawnbecause they are tired, but a series of yawns can indicate a sign of low oxygen.

Rubbing the beak against perch-The budgie way of cleaning their bill after a good meal.

Shaking the feathers-This is how a budgie gets rid of dirt particlaes, bits of skin, and horny scales that their beak has loosened while grooming. This can also signal a mood change. Shaking the feathers is also a way for your budgie to release tension.

Grinding the Bill- This sound indicates your bird's utter contentment.

Burying the beak in the back feathers-This is part of a budgies sleeping position.

Resting while standing on one foot-Also part of a normal sleeping position. If your bird sleeps on two feet this may indicate that your bird is sick.

Stretching legs backward-This is usually done after a period of rest and is a budgie's way of "loosening up" after a rest.

Lifting the wings sideways-This is also a stretch if done quickly, but sometimes budgies use theis to make iself look bigger. Males often use this position to try to impress a femals or intimidate a rival bird.

Suddenly flattened plumage-This indicates that a budgie is scared stiff.

Puffing up the feathers- The budgie way of trying to get warm. This works by trapping air in the puffed plumage to form an insulating layer between the bird's body and the cold.

maybe your bird goes to sleep after you've gone to sleep? Also, I hear birds are early risers.

High Pitched Yelp / FWEEP
This is a cry of distress. With our three parakeets, if one of them gets separated from the other two it will begin to yelp. This is sort of a "Lost! Lost!" cry, and the other parakeets will all out to it to help it find its way back home again. In fact, sometimes if Bob leaves the room after being in there for a while, the other parakeets will assume he's "lost" and start yelping for him, to help him get back to the safe home. He has to go back and tell them he's OK, that he's just going to be away for a little while, and they settle down. We call this their "FWEEP!" smile

i think my bird does this everytime i leave my room... he will chirp madly if i am gone too long but as soon as i come back he will calm down... is that a good or bad thing?

Nice list, but I would like to add that grinding of the bill/beak also means they are sleepy. smile

he still hasnt let me hold him yet... altho today was a BIG day... i was cleaning his cage up and he flew out and so i let him just check things out for a bit and then i got him to get up on a perch so i could put him back in his cage. i was soooo happy... plus he isnt afraid of my hands as much. i can get right up close to him and touch his feet and belly and he will just sit there... still need to teach him the meaning of "up". but training is going great!

I don't kind of agree with the sleeping on two feet is a sign that your keet may be sick.

Most of the time when I see Jaybird asleep, he is asleep on two feet. I thought when they are sleeping on one foot, it means they are resting the other foot from standing on it for so long.
