I was at my local zoo this past weekend - they had a new exhibit of lorikeets.
You basically entered an aviary, home to 38 baby lorikeets that were freely flying around. You were required to stay on the walking path, but the lorikeets could fly to you and perch upon you if they desired. The zoo also offerred small cups of bird food (actually it was a bird "drink") that you could purchase to feed them. At one point I had 3 lorikeets on me, while my son and other children fed them. The lorikeets were just beautiful - literally a rainbow of colors. They were not particularly skittish, although they had many safe places available for retreat - it was a very natural type setting with trees, bushes, etc. I just loved it, and having a parakeet made me feel very comfortable handling them- although their beaks are much bigger and i had to stop one from nibbling on my ear a bit too enthusiastically. I am just wondering if anybody has ever heard of or been to such an exhibit? Although I loved the ability to freely interact with the lorikeets, I worried that somebody (either bird or human) could be injured.
