One of my birds has been periodically shaking his butt on the perch, it looks like he's trying to scratch it. Could this be a sign of illness? maybe a paracite or worms??

Thanks!

This is a new one to me, but I have heard of some birds when constipated do this. A good thing to try would be a warm rag wiped gently of the bottom maybe that could help. No sure though.. if it keeps it up off to the vet I would go.

If the bird is a male, let's see how do I say this...um....he is making himself happy I know male tiels will do this and I have heard of parakeets also doing this. If it's a female I have no idea

yes, above is true, I had a male keet for 13yrs by himself and he would do this against his perch or, um , my finger, It's normal and don't worry about or shun him. He's only acting naturally! You say "one of your keets" How may do you have?

I have two keets. I was pretty sure they are both female . . .but maybe I'm wrong. When I first got Ilo, the one doing the scratching, the breeder said he looked more male than female. The next time I brought him in for a wing clipping, she said maybe he/she was female. His creet is not destincivly blue, but it's not white . . . it's purplish. So, long story short, I'll keep an eye on him/her smile Maybe I'll give the vet a call.

Thanks everyone!
