Is it normal for a budgie's tail to quiver all the time. It isn't doing a big quiver or movement, more like a small constant vibration (maybe not as fast as a "vibration" sounds like it would be though).

He also poofs up, shakes out and fluffs up a lot which I read from another post that it is a way of relaxing themselves after being startled or something to that effect. Can he do this too much (as a sign of sickness)?

Thanks ahead of time!

It's always hard to make guesses about a keet's behavior from descriptions smile Keets are not mechanical of course, so they have natural movement, like any bird. So a constant movement would be normal just like if you balanced standing up on one foot you'd have a constant movement to maintain that balance.

Fluffing up isn't necessarily about being startled. There are all sorts of reasons to fluff up. The keet could just be happy. He could be changing position. A fluff is sort of like a "straightening out of the clothes" smile My keets fluff as a normal part of falling asleep.

That all being said, if you haven't had your keet to a vet in say a year or more, there's no harm at all in taking him in for a regular checkup, and that would set your mind at ease smile

I notice Sunny's tail always vibrates, shes the only one though, I don't believe that there is anything wrong with her. Shes seems happy and healthy so I'm not worried about her smile

Thanks, everyone. It sounds like other people's keets tails do the same thing, so that makes me feel better. smile

He should be good on the vet check-up for now. I bought him at Petsmart and they said their animals are vet assured. And I have had him for less than 2 weeks, so I think he will be ok.

Well, but it's a really good idea to take a new keet to their "new keet checkup". The purpose is so your vet gets a baseline reading so that if you bring your keet in later with a problem, the vet knows what to compare it to.

Also, any time for example that you buy a used car, you always take it to your own mechanic, no matter what the salesmen say. The purpose of a salesman is to make the sale. The purpose of an owner is to protect the health of their loved pet smile We have many reports of pet stores - including PetSmart - selling diseased keets, sometimes without knowing it. The only way they might find out they have a mite infestation for example is if owners like you get their vets re-checked by someone else that catches it.

Any new pet I get - cats, keets, etc. - always go to the vet to get that initial checkup for health reasons. If there's going to be a problem you want to know about it sooner rather than later, so you can nip it in the bud.

Yeah, you're right Lisa. After thinking about it more I made an appointment day before yesterday for someone to see him next week. Ironically, the vet I am going to is the one that Petsmart takes their birds to! smile

That is very interesting - I would *love* to hear what the vet says about how they check out each keet. Be sure to ask lots of questions and let us know what they say!
