Hi,

My female budgie is almost two years old. Her cere used to be beige/brown but lately it's turned into DARK brown. Is that normal? I mean, could it be part of her cycle? There is no peeling, pitting or flakes on her cere. She seems healthy otherwise and has a good appetite, normal poops etc. The only thing is she doesn't like water and doesn't take a bath (I know, I know, I'm planning to work on it...).
Thanks!

It most likely is part of the cycle. The cere color has been known to darken during their cycle. That is probaly what it is.

Yup, I agree, it's probably from her cycle smile It does usually turn dark brown or even black-ish.

Thanks Zoey and Kacey; I didn't think she was sick either but someone who visited us at home saw my budgie and said it the cere looked like it could be cancer and I flipped because she is another budgie owner...Maybe she only had male budgies though...

I am sure your bird is ok Nora. Is she acting like her normal self? If you want to set your mind and heart at ease take her to the vet. I understand your concern though. Grendel's cere was bluish and almost overnight turned brown. All that it meant was that my bird was a female, not a male as I'd previously believed but the change was a little disconcerting.

Sarah,
Thank you for your reply. She is acting like her normal self, isn't fluffed up or anything, so I'm not concerned about any change in her behaviour. I think she is OK too, it's just that this guest of ours spoke with such authority, I thought I'd double check just to make sure...

I think it's great that we have a forum like
this where we can ask questions, share thoughts and pictures...Lisa is to be congratulated on hosting a great web forum like this. smile

OK, I will; but I haven't tried it before so it may take me a while to figure it out...

By the way Sarah, the Keet Photos is my favourite part too! It's time I put a picture of my Reggie and Mini up there as well...
