i just got my parakeet Tiki about 3 days ago, and he chirps and acks a lot. is this ok? i think it was fast but im not sure. he seems really happy, but he is still nervous when my hand gets too close, like when i change his food and water.

Every bird adjusts differently, Tiki obviously felt comfortable really fast and felt safe enough to start chirping. I would say its a good sign smile

That's exactly what's going on with my new keet, Phebe. She chirps almost constantly (which is very good), but whenever I get my hand in the cage, she is sooo scared. I don't really know, I mean she's just a baby. smile

Once you start training your bird, talk to it in a soothing voice or put on classical music or both. A 30 minute training session should do. Here's one of Lisa's sites that could help you out. http://www.lisashea.com/petinfo/articles/bird_hand.html

Yup a lot of members complain that their new keets aren't making any noise! So consider it a great sign that your keet is comfortable enough to make sounds smile
