ive had tweedle dee and tweedle dum for about 6 months now. not much progress has been made since the first day that i got them. i know its harder to train two at a time and it will take longer, but its been 6 months and there hasnt been much improvement. they never bite me (but they didnt when i first got them) and theyll usually perch on my finger inside of the cage if i come at them slowly, but thats about it. they go to the other side of the cage when i come nearby and huddle close to a corner when i open the door. even when i take out their food dish when they know im going to refill it they go to where it is as if to wait for me to come back w/ it, but when i come back in the room they run away and dont start eating until im a safe distance. im sad that my parakeets r so afraid of me and ive tried giving them treats and spending time w/ them but nothing seems to be working. any suggestions?

im thinking its a sign that the freckles in our eyes are mirror images and when we kiss theyre perfectly aligned. : )

wow. seems like you've done a lot. But I have a quick question that I hope someone can answer. I am new with my keet Sprite too. I can tell he trustes me and he gets all happy when I come home or come to see him. Then I open his large door on his cage and he jumps on the closest perch to me. Then I talk to him in a high pitch voice and wiggle my fingers next to him like crazy which he loves. (your keets might like it if you wiggle your fingers too, absoluteTink) Now I am trying to perch train him. Everytime I put the perch to him he simply just rubbes his beak on it. when I put pressure on his belly he flys away. Then I go back to him and I know he isn't scared at all. So he rubbed his beak on it again then I try to get him to stand on it but he just wont. He totaly trusts me he just wont get past step one. How can I make him understan that you stand on the perch? And why does he always rub his beak on it? I have been working VERY VERY hard on my budgie Sprite and I was just wondering if anyone has a few pointers. That you so much!!!

I didn't use Lisa's hand training....ooooppss eek I just did what I thought would work to get her to get on my finger. It seemed to work just fine. Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't use Lisa's hand training, it's just I never had to do any perch training. Then again, I only have one keet to deal with wink

Tink - it sounds like they are getting on your finger because they feel they have to - not because they trust you. I would really work through the hand training method on my site because it helps you build the trust with your keet, which is what training is really all about. You want your keet to form a bond with you as a friend.

You really need to work on it every day, without gaps, because what you are doing is building that relationship with your pet.
