Utah is very cold to be making wine. There are just a few wineries there, many of them around Salt Lake City. You'd think they'd want to support the wineries and wine drinkers in Utah. But, no.
Utah is in a special situation. First it is a FELONY to get wine direct shipped in to you in Utah. They can throw you in jail for enjoying your favorite bubbly from California! From my research, Utah is the ONLY state in the entire US which threatens a felony for anybody who ships in wine. This is even if you, yourself, buy your wine while on a trip and then want to ship it home to your house. Felony. Jail.
The only exception is that the Utah government does allow you to have your wine shipped in to THEM - to the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. You have to fill out the ABC Online Form to provide all the details. The wine is shipped to them, and then you go to their store to pick it up.
So if you live in Utah, at least there is some option to get the wine you want, but it is cumbersome.
Let me know if you have any fresh information about Utah wine shipping laws! If you have recently had wine shipped in to you here, please let me know how smoothly the experience went. Often the laws say one thing, but FedEx and UPS say another!
If you live in Utah, be sure to write your representative to get this changed!
