The Sharpe Hill Vineyard is found in the lovely, rolling hills of Pomfret, Connecticut, in its northeast corner. We visit Sharpe Hill at least once a year, to resupply our cellar with their delicious wines. What a lovely tasting room! A historic "tap room" with antique furniture and beautiful woodwork holds tables for dining when it is wet or cold outside. An even more lovely patio has a fountain and tables. They are soon planning on having food there for tasters to sample. But this is all secondary to the wines. The wines we tried were simply fantastic. Both white and red wines were well crafted, quite surprisingly good for a tucked-back corner of Connecticut. Many have won awards. Our favorite is a Cabernet Franc which holds the promise of aging to become superb. We had just opened a 17-yr-old Cabernet the night before (which was delicious), and this had the same (but more youthful) taste to it. I highly recommend visiting Sharpe Hill if you get into this neck of Connecticut!
