Pinzon Wine Box Stand

I'm a wine writer, so we always have a lot of wine in the house - including wine boxes. Now, before you go turning your nose up at a wine box, these are actually AMAZING devices. With a normal glass bottle of wine, once you open it air gets inside. The wine is being destroyed even if you cork it up and put it in the fridge. With a wine box you don't have that issue at all! You open the spigot on the wine box. The plastic bladder inside the box shrinks as the wine comes out so there is never ANY air touching the wine. The wine is always perfect.

You can get some very good quality wines in wine boxes nowadays. It is completely up to you how much you spend on your wine box, as to the quality of the wine you drink. The wine box is about the ultimate in "storage devices" for most wines on the market. It is only the store-more-than-a-year wines (which the vast majority of people don't drink) which do well with the bottle-and-cork.

So, that all being said, how does this Pinzon wine box stand fare? First, it is a great size. We have a number of wine boxes here and they fit perfectly. Yes, not all wine boxes are the exact same size, but you'd have to be upgrading to some sort of fairly large size for it not to fit.

Next, the stand holds it at a good height. If the height was too tall, the unit would be likely to tip over from the weight being up so high. At this level you can tilt a wine glass beneath it to fill the glass to "proper fill" - i.e. about 2/3rds of the way up. That gives the wine the best flavor and allows the drinker not to spill it all over themselves. Perfect!

For people who were used to dangling their wine box over the edge of a lip of a counter to get it to work, this is a great solution. It doesn't take up any additional space really, it is sturdy and the wine box is held securely. You could complain that it is not "universal" - i.e. there are large wine boxes which won't fit in this - but that is sort of a vacuous complaint. No wine box holder could ever fit every single wine box out there, and if you have a very large, heavy wine box you really probably shouldn't have it up on anything which could tip over. It's best to put those large puppies solidly on the counter and make sure they are stable there.

Well recommended!
