Boston Wine Expo 2001 -
Zonin Winery from Italy
The Zonin table offered up quite a selection. Zonin is the largest family in Italy, owning vineyards from Friuli down to Sicily. Amongst their holdings are Castello d'Albola, Castello del Poggio, and Tenuta Ca'bolani. They are the biggest grower of pinot grigio, with over 250 acres planted.

Silvio and Francesco discuss the wines
We first went for a Opimio from Friuli, a Chardonnay blend created near Venice. This was very light and fruity. Next was the 1998 Zonin Nero d'Avola, rich, rustic and tannic. They only have 3000 cases of this new wine.
The Acciaiolo is pronounced "acholo" and sells for $35-$40. Produced by Castello d'Albola, this spends 18 months in the barrel. This delicious, rich wine is currently selling well in Boston and Chicago, and they only make 18,000 bottles a year.
When we finished these wines we stopped next door at the Consorzio Perl'esportazione del Prosciutto di Porme, for some delicious prosciutto. It went well with the Acciaiolo we had in our glasses.
