Charles Heidsieck Tasting Notes
While the original Heidsieck house dated from 1785 with Florent-Louis, it was in 1851 that Charles Camille broke off to found his own winery.
Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve
This is a reserve but still a non vintage. 40% of the wine is reserve stock wine. It ages for a minimum of 3 years, and is 34% pinot noir, 33% chardonnay and 33% pinot meunier. There were tons of tiny bubbles in this one. It was toasty, nutty, hazelnutty with a hint of coffee and great balance. Even the finish was lovely. You could age this through 2010.
Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millenaires Brut Vintage 1995
This is a 100% chardonnay wine, with the 5 best crus from the cotes de blanc. These are Oger, Mesnil, Vertus, Cremant and Avise. It's aged on lees for 10 years. With teeny bubbles, it is smooth with honeysuckle tangerine, tender croissant and coffee flavors. We really loved this bottle and got one for our New Years 2005 celebration.
