Lychee Nut -
Aromas and Flavors of Wine

This is a recent addition to many grocery stores, and most people don't know what a lychee is or looks like. A lychee is about 2" long and has a flowery, rose-grape sort of flavor. Lychee Nuts come in cans and are sometimes used in oriental cooking.

If you can't find fresh lychees in your store to taste, try finding a can or two of them in the oriental foods section. The lychee is a tropical fruit.

The Wines with Lychee Flavor

There are two wines that have a hint of lychee in their flavor. The first is Gewurztraminer, a white wine that traditionally comes from Germany. The gewurztraminer grape is now also being grown in California and Australia. These wines tend to be on the sweet side.

The second wine with lychee flavors is Ice Wine. Ice wine is a type of wine normally made from Vidal or Riesling grapes. It is a wine made by freezing the grapes on the vine, letting the sugar levels build up, and then harvesting the grapes in a frozen state. It is a sweet, fruity dessert wine.
